Molecular biology is like a gem with many facets. If you look closely at one of the facets, you see it has more facets, and one of those new facets will have facets too. Now you've found yourself at the level of a specific research area. To be able to comprehend and navigate at that level is to be sophisticated, but that doesn't mean you have foreknowledge of the specific details or that you need to memorize everything. Learn the shape of the facet. Understand where it fits. The most important details you will see over and over again.
