The tips begin at a different place in each module. The advice moves along with the stages of the course.

While you are working through the first study cycle with a large body of material there can be a sense of the subject extending over the horizon. After the second cycle you will have your mind around it and the scale of the material will seem to shrink. The third cycle will go fast and your mind has begun to fully accommodate a well structured knowledge base. At that point it doesn't seem like that much anymore, and it's all accessible. There is no area of MCAT review where this effect will be stronger than the organic reaction mechanisms. This area will seem big at first and later not so big.

Module 10 Science Focus

Suggested Assignments

Study the conceptual materials in your book-set (TBR or Kaplan) covering glycolysis, pyruvate dehydrogenase, fatty acid oxidation, and the citric acid cycle.

Perform the odd numbered (phase 1 ) practice items in your book-set.

Watch the videos for Module 10 - Glycolysis, β-Oxidation, and Citric Acid Cycle

Read Ch. 6 - Bioenergetics and Oxidative Phosphorylation, Ch. 8 - Glycolysis, Ch. 9 - Tricarboxylic Acid Cycle, and Ch. 16 - Fatty Acid and Triacylglycerol Metabolism (just skim the section covering fatty acid synthesis) in Biochemistry (Lippincott's Illustrated Reviews). Perform the practice items at the end of each chapter.

Choose from the resources available within the Topic Pages to reinforce and supplement learning.

Conceptual Integration

Read the Interdisciplinary Notes for Module 10.

Play Catch Blue.

We'll be starting AAMC Section Bank in module 12. Pretend that this is actually exam day coming. Set aside two hours for a cram session. Study as if you were trying to get one last look at everything.

Biology Cycle

Read Ch. 20 - The Cell Cycle and Ch. 21 - Regulation of the Cell Cycle in Lippincott - Cell & Molecular Biology

Psychology

Study the conceptual treatment of Identity & Personality in your MCAT book-set and complete the odd numbered problems.

Continue review of the conceptual vocabulary for Identity & Personality using the illustrated conceptual primer on this site.

Extend practice using the Essential Concepts ANKI Deck to include the Identity & Personality cards.

Begin working through Step 2 and Step 3 of the CARS Diagnostic Tool. Pace yourself to complete the curriculum provided by this resource within the next four modules.

MCAT Practice

Continue working on the Physics, Chemistry & Biology (I & II) Question Packs at AAMC. Look to complete the Question Packs before module 12.
